Measurement and Assessment
As an inseparable part of education process, measurement and assessment system is used to see whether or not the targeted skills have been achieved.
One of the objectives of assessment is to improve and support student’s learning.
Sensitive, correct, appropriate and supportive measurement-assessment system is a requirement for learning.
Measurement and Assessment,
• Ensures that teacher recognizes student.
• Provides feedback to the students about their strong and weak areas.
• Provides feedback to the students about how they can change or improve their behaviors.
• Ensures quality promotion in education service.
• Ensures that teacher provides a better guidance.
• Provides feedback about the proficiency of the implemented education methodology.
• Allows provision of information to the parents about student progress. It thus helps parents get involved in education process.
Nature of Measurement-Assessment Approach Adopted in New Education Program:
1. Focus on process as well as on result,
2. Attach importance to application and structuring of knowledge rather than remembering it, as well as to encouraging the students to display their well-developed skills,
3. Attach importance to performance assignments associated with real life practice rather than written assignments talking about abstract subjects,
4. Prefer clear and specific criteria rather than implicit and vague ones,
5. Carry out ongoing measurement and assessment activities not only at the end of education process, but also at every stage of it.
6. Concentrate on providing effective and timely feedback besides giving grades,
7. Rather than adhering to a single, particular method in measurement work, try to use multiple alternatives of it,
8. Determine how the learning process has taken place as well as how much material has been learned,
9. Encourage cooperation rather than competition.
