Technology skills from K to 12
The Information Technology (IT) curriculum is designed to equip Turkey's students for their future role as citizens of a computer-literate global country.
Technological and information literacy has become as important as the traditional academic skills of numeracy and literacy. A successful student must have:
- A mastery of the tools used in Information Technology (IT).
- The ability to gather, interpret and manipulate data.
- The ability to solve problems using appropriate IT resources.
- The ability to contribute to and benefit from the fast growing Web 2.0 world
Koç's IT Program addresses the goal of developing these competencies by building each year on previously developed skills while providing time for their revision, application and reinforcement.
Departmental goals.
The primary goals of the Computer Department are:
To provide the fundamental skills required to function in an IT environment.
-
To facilitate students' integration of appropriate IT tools into their daily lives and learning.
-
To develop analytical thought and logical problem-solving skills.
-
To help students to understand trends and events in a constantly changing technological environment.
-
To foster an awareness of the social and ethical issues surrounding the use of IT in society.
-
To prepare students for advanced computer science study in Turkey or abroad.
Students will explore a range of computer applications within a social and academic context and receive extensive guidance on using technology as a way of being more productive in other classes.
In the early grades, the emphasis is on skills acquisition. As students master these, more abstract topics are introduced and the course moves towards developing an overall understanding of problem solving at the frontier of technology. By the end of the compulsory period of computer education, students will have a gained a sound knowledge of Information Technology and its application to academic and real world situations.
