Middle school foreign languages (6-8)

While teaching French, German and Spanish, the purpose of our department is to enrich and develop the intellectual and human qualities of our students taking into account the following skills in their chosen foreign language:

  • Listening
  • Reading
  • Speaking (monologue & taking part in a conversation)
  • Writing

Our goal is to:

  • Make them responsible for their learning and reflect on how they learn best.
  • Guide them in the language acquisition process and model effective ways to learn.
  • Give them confidence in using their new language in the 4 skills mentioned above and expose them to the target language.
  • Make them look at their own language and culture from a universal point of view by expanding their vision and knowledge of the world.
  • To establish a positive outlook for different people and cultures.
  • To develop their critical thinking and enable them to see problems from various perspectives.
  • Motivate students so they become equipped with necessary skills required today so that they can serve their country in the future.

Application:

Our approach is communicative. Grammar is integrated, not taught separately. Learners can learn more than 10, 000 institutionalized utterances when taught only 3,000 of them. Middle school students start their second foreign language in sixth grade where they begin to be exposed to the target language and learn the basics.
