Course description

In 2007-2008, for the first time in Koç School’s foreign language classes, students were divided by their ability to speak, understand, read and write French or German.

In the past, students were simply divided by the number of years they had studied it, regardless of their abilities to function in that language. This made for multi-leveled language classes since students learn at different rates, some slower or faster than others.

For this reason this past school year, we organized advanced, intermediate and beginner classes in each grade level based on the average of their first-semester grades in 2006-2007, with some minor adjustments by their teachers.

This way, students in one class were learning at around the same speed and were able to make vast improvements in their foreign language. In order to further help those in the beginner level, we tried to limit the class size to 11 students.

The results were for the most part: far better grades and better tailored classes to each student’s needs, and fewer students failed their foreign language this past school year.

We believe that with this system, everyone wins and for this reason, we will continue with it in 2008-2009 and hopefully, for many years to come.
