Measurement and Assessment

Turkish course for Grade 6-8 aims to develop five basic skills namely, speaking, writing, listening, reading and grammar. Department teachers adopt a measurement and assessment system that will help to reflect these five basic skills of the students parallel with this aim. They also use alternative measurement-assessment methods besides the ones given under the headings of the program issued by MEB. Our students are measured and assessed al year long by tools like written exams, performance assignments and projects and class assignments.

Written Exams: Students are given a total of six written exams throughout the year, three being in the first semester and three in the second semester.  Written exams include the sections like reading and comprehension, listening and comprehension, written exposition and grammar. Various question types such as true-false, matching, multiple choice and essay types are used in written exams. In the section of essay type questions, students are asked to produce one-paragraph writing using citations and references related with a text or literary work they read. Besides, they are asked their personal opinions.

Performance Assignments: Every student is given one performance assignment in every semester. Student is informed, at least one month in advance, about the subject, instructions and assessment rubrics for his/her performance assignment, and it is also posted on our website.

Project: The students, who receive projects from Turkish course, know that they are supposed to read a literary book before they do a project and to produce the core idea of the project from this book. Student is assessed during the whole process; he/she meets with the teacher on the days that will have been determined by the teacher beforehand and keeps on doing the project in the light of the teacher’s suggestions. Projects can either be term-based or year-based.

Class Performance: In this section, students are assessed based on their individual or group presentations given in the class, text-reading exams and class participation. For these assessments, alternative assessment criteria are prepared and used in accordance with the decision taken in the weekly level meetings.
