High school Turkish (9-12)
General Information
Turkish Literature and Turkish Language and Composition courses are offered by the Literature Department of our school and adopt a text-oriented attitude. Although these have been set as two separate courses in the program, the department acts conscious of the fact that language cannot be separated from literature in practice and ensures that a connection between these two courses is established. Within this direction, the general aim of Turkish Literature and Turkish Language and Composition courses is to bring up individuals who are able to use their mother language correctly, know other cultures as well as their own cultures, respect differences, have the habit of reading and thinking systematically and have enhanced written and oral expression skills.
The program followed by our school has been established within the direction of the objectives of the national curriculum, making use of the strengths of the IB program. Therefore, an integrated approach was adopted, ensuring that both OSS and IB students follow the same program. Supporting activities of multiple-choice exams containing OSS-type questions are given to OSS students.
Courses contain literary works that reflect different genres, periods and approaches in Turkish and world literature. During the process, texts are analyzed within the direction of the modern approaches of today following an introduction to these works that contain the writers and periods in which they were produced. Comparisons are made, supporting audio-visual materials are used and thoughts are expressed in written and oral form in accordance with the rules of literary criticism and literary article writing. Equipping students with the habit of following artistic events such as plays, cinema, exhibitions, the biennial, etc. is one of the main objectives of courses we offer.
