Departmental Principles
A) Application:
Works to be studied in each grade level are chosen by teachers in consideration of the contents of the program, level, period, writer/poet, form, etc.
“Text-oriented IB mother language education concept” is dominant in all IB and non-IB grade 11 and 12 classes.
The same text-oriented approach is adopted also in 9th and 10th grades.
Generally full-texts are read in these classes.
Text analysis techniques are taught step by step.
Methods for establishing links between texts are taught step by step.
The LP program is designed to prepare students to higher grades as individuals who are equipped with the principles of our courses and who adopt school culture.
Courses contain arts activities such as plays, cinema, magazines, exhibitions, etc. and aim to support cultural development of students and equip them with such habits.
Turkish Literature and Language and Composition courses are conducted in connection with each other. Subjects taught in these courses are complementary of each other. Contents of the two courses are designed to be complementary. Grammar, composition and literature activities are connected.
Since we do not have electives, particularly in 12th grade, the Language and Composition course is designed to increase the OSS success level of students in the direction of their needs and demands.
B) Testing and Assessment:
Students are assessed by different examination methods at all grade levels. (Multiple choice, short answer, literary article, literary criticism, etc.)
Alternative assessment is an important part of testing and assessment. This is planned in accordance with the needs of the grade level and announced to the students.
Examinations are planned in the grade level meetings. (Content, targets to be assessed, cognitive level of questions, answer key and rubric)
Both teachers and students use the oral presentation assessment criteria and teachers thus allowing students to assess themselves and each other.
Work that will make up oral grades will be determined for each grade level and announced to students at an earlier time.
The department forms the test bank.
C) Projects, Yearly Homework:
The students are expected to acquire and use a skill in all research-based projects.
Such projects cannot be initiated without a research question.
Students must carry out their projects in connection with a specific work. However, it is not possible to work on a foreign work only; this should always be compared to a work from Turkish literature.
A detailed assessment scale to be prepared by the teachers will be used.
D) Implementation:
Decisions made at grade level meetings that are held on the basis of necessity are implemented. This allows establishing consistency among classes.
