The Business and Management course is in heavy demand among IB students, Economics less so, but it is still quite popular. The teacher will ideally be one who can convey a passionate interest in the subject, and encourage student s to make connections with contemporary business issues and problems. S(h)e should also be able to incorporate TOK links into the teaching of the course, and suggest and support CAS activities (including Junior Achievement activities) as the experiential learning extension of the B&M/Economics course. Both Economics and B&M are taught at HL as the default course, with some students choosing to register for SL if they so wish. HL and SL students are taught in the same class. Allowance must be made for the fact that English is a foreign language for almost all students, some of whom may have learnt it only in high school. Students rarely use English outside the classroom.
The newly introduced IB Economics course at both HL and SL consists of a section each on Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, International Economics and Development. Students are expected to apply the skills of argument, inquiry, analysis and synthesis to develop a portfolio of three commentaries as coursework, and be prepared for two (at SL) or three (at HL) examination papers .

The Koç School, Istanbul is one of Turkey’s leading schools with a high international reputation. It is an independent Turkish school offering a bilingual education to 2,100 students through the Turkish National Curriculum and the International Baccalaureate (Diploma). The posts within the High School include the possibility of teaching at ‘IB’ Diploma level for suitable candidates. The Modern Languages are taught in the target language supported by English where necessary. The school is seeking teachers who can make a significant contribution to maintaining and furthering the school’s goal of being at the forefront of education both nationally and across the world.
Work Visas:
For visa approval, the Turkish Ministries of Education and Labor require that a teacher have:
1. an undergraduate college/university degree in the subject to be taught
2. a teaching credential in that subject.
There are virtually no exceptions to these requirements.
Contract Period and Remuneration:
The initial contract for all teachers is two years; thereafter, extensions are for one or two-year periods. All foreign-hire teachers are provided housing on campus as well as round-trip air transport, a shipping allowance, health and life insurance, an annual bonus in lieu of pension, and free tuition for children attending Koç. Many foreign-hire teachers find that they are able to save a substantial portion of their salaries due to the reasonable cost of living in Turkey and the benefits provided by the school.
The school provides an excellent setting for career-minded teachers seeking an environment in which to enjoy a rich educational and historic setting. The school's salaries and benefits are designed to reward teachers who are abl
e to make such a commitment.
