Traditional activities at the Koç School
1) BOOK FAIR AND AUTHOR/POET TALKS
We have been organizing book fairs & author/poet talks to familiarize our students with the famous Turkish poets and writers of our time as well as their prominent works. This year we will organize our 17th Book Fair, hosting representatives of various publishing houses and a guest of honor who delivers the opening speech. After the speech, the guest of honor is extended our traditional Book Fair award. In the following days, other distinguished authors of our literature visit our school to address our students and to autograph their books.
2) TALENT SHOW
Talent show is a very special organization for the Koç School offering our students the opportunity to demonstrate their skills in areas such as music, cinema, dance, folk-dance, documentary, short film, cartoon and drama before a jury and an audience of students, teachers and parents. Awards are given to those who are ranked first. All our students look forward to participating in this very special night.
3) THE KOÇ FESTIVAL
The Koç Festival is a traditional art festival hosted by our school organized every year with the participation of at least 20 schools. The best groups of the participant schools stage their musical performances (pop, classical, jazz, rock, etc.) and dance shows (ballet, folk-dance, etc..). They also display their works of art. This one-day-long organization aspires to help students to socialize with their peers in a fun and vivid environment.
4) ATAKAN DEMİRSEREN MATH CONTEST
Atakan Demirseren, both a well-respected administrator and an eminent math and physics teacher, worked at the Koç School as the Turkish Director from the very first day of the school’s foundation until its 10th anniversary and contributed greatly to each and every stage of the Koç Elementary School’s foundation. Unfortunately, he passed away unexpectedly ten years ago. The final session of the contest is conducted at Atakan Demirseren Hall before an audience of teachers and students. The winners are enthusiastically rewarded.
5) SCIENCE FAIR
Science Fair is an annual activity in which our high school students and students from other schools participate with their projects. These projects that have been conducted in the fields of Physics, Chemistry and Biology are assessed by a jury and eventually, the first three projects are rewarded. The activity lasts two days and aspires to enhance the scientific skills of our students. On the first day, only our students’ projects are displayed and on the second day, the participating schools present their projects to the audience and jury members. The assessments are made on the second day and rewards are distributed accordingly.
6) SEVGİ GÖNÜL ART NIGHT
This special night is organized by the Fine Arts Department with the intention to support art and artists. The drawings, ceramic and glass products made by the Koç School students during the academic year are exhibited on this night. The keynote speaker of the night is often chosen among well-known artists of our country. Our students give concerts and stage dance-shows on this very special night to which the Koç Family, their friends and our students’ parents attend as audience.
7) CAREER DAY
This year our Counseling Department will organize the 16th Career Day which is an organization unique to the Koç School. Academics, business people and Koç graduate university students meet with our students to provide them with information about various career tracks and to answer their questions as to what they want to do in the future. Thanks to the Career Day, each year, a Koç high school student has the chance to obtain detailed information on two of her/his areas of interest. This enables the student to make healthy decisions about her/his career preference and make the right university choice at the end of Grade 12.
8) TURKISH UNIVERSITY FAIR
Our Turkish University Counseling Department organizes this fair in order to familiarize our students with the Turkish universities. Our school brings together university professors and university students from various universities not only with our students, but also with other high school students in our district.This is a golden opportunity for those students who plan to study in a Turkish university. The fair helps the participating students to have a more clear idea as to which department of which university they want to get enrolled in.
9) OVERSEAS UNIVERSITY FAIR (EDUCATION DAY)
The Education Day, sponsored by the Council of International Schools and organized by the Koç School Overseas College Guidance Office, is among the most important university orientation events taking place in Turkey each year, on the first weekend of October. It is an excellent opportunity for students and their parents to become familiar with the multitude of higher education options abroad by speaking personally with colleges and university admissions officers, faculty members and alumni. Thanks to this fair, students are offered the key to finding the “right” university for themselves.
10) SPRING FESTIVAL
Spring Fest is a traditional picnic party organized in the schoolyard for the Koç School students, their parents and personnel every year. There are various events such as games or special concerts taking place during this festivous picnic which brings thousands of people together.
