Our Approach to Health Services

Hello, 

We would like to share with you our perspective on the health services provided in our school. We hope that this will contribute to the broadening of your demands on us in this regard. The diversity of your demands will subsequently contribute to the quality of service we will provide as well as the wellbeing of our students.

The main core of our approach to health is the definition thereof by the World Health Organization (WHO) which states that health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. This definition does not consider a person only as the sum of organs but emphasizes that each person is unique and individual and also a social being with unique spiritual traits. Good medical practices in health services highly regard the rights and freedom of the individual/patient and require utilizing the predictions of scientific data to provide maximum profit for the specific case of the patient. Our policy which we have formulated to promote health in line with patient rights and scientific predictions, based on WHO practices, is as follows:

Our Health Promotion Policy

All health measures are taken to improve the health of the students at our school. As a health promoting school; we

1. promote health and learning in all aspects,

2. engage health and education staff,

3. strive to provide a healthy environment, school health training, school health services, school and social project and research, health promotion programs for the employees, nutrition and food security programs, physical training and entertainment opportunities, consulting, social support and promotion of mental health,

4. strive to implement policies and practices concerning the wellbeing and standing of the individual, and to provide opportunities of success,

5. strive to improve the health level of the school staff, the families, the group members and the students,

6. help to understand how leaders of the society are promoting or undermining social health and education thereof.

Our Areas of Focus during this Process

1. Enhancing responsibility for ourselves and others

2. Making healthy decisions and taking control of life

3. Enhancing capacity for peace, protection, education, food, revenue, ecosystem, equality and social justice as well as sustainable development

4. Fighting the major causes of death, illness and impairment:

- Unhealthy nutrition
Obesity
Deficit of vitamins and minerals such as iron or calcium
- Sedentary lifestyle
- Violence and injury
- Spine health, scoliosis
- Parasites
- Tobacco, drug and alcohol use
- Sexual health and AIDS
- Hearing and sight
- Dental health
- Blood pressure
- Vaccinations
- Protection from frequent diseases
Attention to overall sanitary rules
Frequency of washing the hands
Keeping hands away from eyes and mouth
Covering mouth and nose in case of cough and congestion

5. Focusing on influencing health related behavior, information, beliefs, skills, attitudes, values and supports.
At our school, students suffering from diabetes, asthma and other chronic diseases are also primarily monitored. Within this framework:
- Students with chronic diseases are determined and a fact sheet of their medical records is obtained.
- For patients requiring specific applications, detailed doctor reports and application recommendations are obtained.
- A meeting is arranged with the family, the student if possible, the teacher in charge, the staff and health personnel to aid the student to discuss the services the student is to receive, the health adjustment and academic support for the student.
- The student is informed of his/her legal rights.
- The role and duties of the school staff are cleared to support an academic and communication environment suitable for the student.
- Necessary measures are taken to enable the participation of the student to all activities.
- Regular communication is maintained with the family and the treating physician.
- Necessary measures are taken to ensure that the student takes his/her prescribed medicine safely during school hours and school related activities.
- Measures are taken and relevant staffs are trained to recognize and manage health needs and problems in emergencies.
- All personnel in regular contact with the students are briefed to be able to provide proper guidance in possible cases and problems.
- The student and staff are trained.
- A safe and healthy school environment is provided.
- The health records are kept in line with the security and confidentiality principles.

Our main goal is to provide all health services within the framework of ethics and fundamental rights of the individual. It is again within this framework that we share the relevant documents on patient rights and children’s rights with you.
