4-8 MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENT
It is our aim to provide guidance for our students to help them understand Math by correlating it with other disciplines, to use it in daily life and to enrich and facilitate life adopting an investigative and innovative point of view.
Provide guidance for our students to help them develop following skills:
- problem solving
- analytical thinking
- critical thinking
- using technology.
The 4-8 Maths Curriculum is based on Ministry of Education National Curriculum. The syllabus is classified under 5 basic learning areas. Mostly every topic is taught in every level in different depth according to the students skills.
The lesson distribution for levels
- Grade 4 - ( 4 periods )
- Grade 5 - ( 4 periods )
- Grade 6 - ( 4 maths periods ) + 1 ICT period(geometry lesson with computers with GSP program)
- Grade 7 - ( 5maths periods ) + 1 ICT period(geometry lesson with computers with GSP program)
- Grade 8 - 6 periods
Our lessons have been planned so that our students understand the reasons for mathematical facts by answering the questions like “Why do we learn math?” and “Why do we need problem solving skills?” We use an ENRICHED Math program that covers ALL topics and skills required in the curriculum set forth by the Ministry of National Education. There may be some differences between the order of topics in MEB curriculum and that of our Math program. We follow the program in the order we choose, and complete all required topics within the academic year. Our students are offered the opportunity to come to Math Department Office or Math Laboratory with their Project teachers whenever they need throughout the year, and they carry out Project Works and activities. We display our students’ projects in our school’s Science Fair and publish them in our “Edge” magazine.
